Rescue teams in Ghana’s Accra are combing through debris after an unfinished building being used as a church collapsed

Rescue teams in Ghana’s Accra are combing through debris after an unfinished building being used as a church collapsed. According to Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, 23 people were inside at the time. Three have died, while the remaining 20 are receiving treatment in hospital.

A witness working at a hair salon opposite the site said the congregation was in the middle of a service when the structure gave way.

Building collapses are a recurring problem in Ghana, often linked to rapid urban development, weak enforcement of construction standards, and the use of unfinished or unsafe structures.
