In Burkina Faso, three journalists who had been held since Monday were released on Wednesday, October 15, while two others were questioned by intelligence officials.
According to multiple sources, the detentions are linked to a leaked interview given by President Ibrahim Traoré to journalists in late September. Parts of the interview circulated online on a page critical of the government before its official publication, raising concerns about press freedom in the country.
Marcel Ouoba from the Coalition of Journalists, Activists and Opinion Leaders, who have faced threats in the past, spoke on the matter, noting the ongoing difficulties for journalists working in Burkina Faso.
