South Africa’s Dean Burmester says he is unfazed by what he describes as a strong media bias in the United States (US) against LIV Golf, as the tour heads to its next stop in Virginia, near Washington DC.

Burmester acknowledged that the US market has been one of the league’s most vocal critics, but said the reaction is nothing new for players competing on the breakaway circuit.

“America is very biased in the media towards no disruption, let’s call it that,” he said, adding that the league has faced similar scrutiny since its launch.

Despite the criticism, he pointed to positive experiences at the Virginia course in previous visits, noting that crowds had been “decent” and support was steady in parts of the US.

“There is a bit of a cult following in certain areas,” he said, expressing hope for a strong turnout this time around.

Burmester added that attracting fans remains the priority as LIV Golf continues to push for growth and wider acceptance in key markets.
