The government of Burundi has suspended all private recruitment agencies facilitating employment opportunities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following an audit that revealed more than 60 firms operating in the labor export sector.
The ban comes amid mounting reports of severe abuse, exploitation, and human rights violations faced by Burundian domestic and migrant workers overseas.
Authorities indicated that the suspension aims to protect citizens while state officials review oversight protocols and regulation standards within the international recruitment industry.
