Confederation of African Football (CAF) has doubled its solidarity payments to clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup to $100 000, while prize money for the Champions League winners now stands at a record six million Dollars.
African Club Association President Hersi Said says the financial support is helping clubs deal with rising travel and operational costs across the continent, while also improving competitiveness and professionalism in the game.
Said believes the stronger financial backing is already helping more clubs compete for continental success, with so-called smaller teams now capable of reaching the latter stages of CAF competitions.
