Ahead of South Africa’s (SA) Budget Speech, some unemployed young people in the Northern Cape Province have called on Finance Minister Enoch Godongwane to prioritise opportunities that can help improve the lives of desperate young people.
Young people say they are doubtful that the budget speech scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday will have a positive impact on their lives.
High youth unemployment in SA remains a big challenge.
According to official statistics 43% of SA citizens aged 15 to 34 are unemployed.
In an attempt to give dejected young people hope, a non-profit organisation in Kimberley is actively trying to link these unemployed youth to employers.
Once weekly they meet job seekers to help them draft their curriculum vitae, email them to potential employers and assist with interview coaching.
They say their contribution is a drop in the ocean but goes a long way for those who have lost hope of finding a job.
