South African Deputy Minister of Social Development, Ganief Hendricks, has called for a shift in how African migrants are viewed on the continent.
Speaking at the Civil 20 SA Summit in Benoni, Gauteng Province, he told over 500 civil society delegates that Africans on African soil should not be regarded as immigrants, regardless of their legal status.
He said this approach would help strengthen continental unity and foster a more inclusive African identity.
His remarks come during the three-day summit aimed at amplifying Africa’s voice within the G20 and reinforcing the role of civil society in tackling global inequality.
