Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused the Cameroonian government of committing serious human rights violations

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused the Cameroonian government of committing serious human rights violations after security forces allegedly used live ammunition and tear gas to disperse opposition-led protests.

The rights group says the crackdown targeted demonstrators calling for political reforms and greater freedoms. Reports indicate several people were injured and dozens arrested during the protests.

HRW has urged the Cameroonian authorities to uphold the right to peaceful assembly and to hold those responsible for abuses to account.
