Cape Verde launches two week presidential campaign ahead of November 15 vote

Official campaigning for Cape Verde’s presidential election is underway, launching two weeks of canvassing ahead of the vote on November 15.

Six candidates are in the running for the Presidency ahead of the official end of campaigning on November 13, according to the National Elections Commission.

Incumbent President José Maria Neves, backed by the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), is bidding for a second term. His chief rival is expected to be former Justice Minister Joana Rosa, who enjoys the backing of the ruling Movement for Democracy (MpD).

The remaining field includes four independent candidates; Gilson Alves, Casimiro Pina, Antero Tavares, and Loisito Sousa.

Analysing the contest, Cape Verdean journalist José Vicente Lopes highlighted that the campaign will largely center on economic recovery, governance, and preserving institutional stability across the archipelago.
