Chad summons Central African Republic envoy over deadly border attack

The government of Chad have summoned the Ambassador of the Central African Republic (CAR), Jean-Bernard Léopold, to protest a violent cross-border military incursion that left several civilians dead and sixteen Chadian soldiers severely injured.

According to an official statement from N’Djamena, CAR troops crossed into Chadian territory at the border town of Amnabaka, launching artillery bombardments that inflicted military casualties and civilian deaths. The incident follows an October 10 statement from the CAR’s Ministry of Defence claiming its forces, supported by Russian paramilitary operatives, had conducted a pre-emptive strike in the northern Vakaga region to neutralise external threats.

Tensions along the volatile border remain high as Chadian authorities demand accountability, while political figures in both nations warn against further escalation in the region.
