Alarm has spread across Guinea-Bissau after the country’s electoral commission announced that it cannot complete the November 23 presidential election.
Reports indicate that armed men seized ballots and vote tallies and destroyed the servers holding election results. The incident has prompted widespread concern over the integrity of the vote.
Opposition leaders and civil society groups condemned the attack, calling for urgent measures to protect the electoral process and restore public confidence.
Journalist Olivia Zollino reports that authorities are now facing mounting pressure to investigate the violence and secure the election before the political situation deteriorates further.
“This attack threatens both the credibility of the election and the stability of the country,” said one opposition figure. “Immediate action is needed to safeguard the democratic process.”
