Pushback grows over Chad, Mali and Burkina Faso decisions to quit ICC

African civil society leaders and political figures convened in Paris early this week, for a panel debate to strongly condemn the withdrawal of Chad, Mali, and Burkina Faso from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Participants at the conference announced plans to step up campaign efforts to highlight the fallout from these departures and prevent similar moves by other African nations. Activists warned that turning away from the Rome Statute undermines international justice and accountability across the continent.

Speaking on French service show Vues d’Afrique, prominent activist Makaïla Nguebla highlighted the urgency of co-ordinated action to safeguard human rights frameworks and maintain judicial recourse for victims of violence across the region
