In a stunning display of popularity, entries for the 2026 Comrades Marathon vanished in under 10 hours, leaving thousands of eager runners disappointed.
Alain Delay, the General Manager of the Comrades Marathon, described the overwhelming demand as “unprecedented” and highlighted opportunities for hopeful participants looking ahead.
With a cap of 22 000 runners for next year’s 99th edition, scheduled for Sunday, June 14, the early registration rush broke records. Delay said the surge was fuelled in large part by social media, as marketing posts and enthusiastic shares spread rapidly across platforms.
Delay also highlighted that the event’s enduring appeal lies not only in its historic prestige but also in the sense of community and shared achievement it fosters. He encouraged runners who missed out to remain engaged, noting that future opportunities and events will continue to celebrate the spirit of the Comrades Marathon.
