The Republic of Congo has told investors it formally requested a ‌fresh financing programme from the IMF

The Republic of Congo has told investors it formally requested a ‌fresh financing programme from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), three sources told Reuters.

The country completed its most recent loan programme in March 2025, which saw the Fund disburse over three years some 324 million of IMF Special Drawing Rights, or around $430 million at the time.

A Spokesperson for the government declined to comment. The IMF had no immediate comment.

Government authorities held a number of meetings with investors on the sidelines ‌of the IMF World Bank spring meetings in Washington this week.

The Fund warned in an assessment published earlier this month that Congo’s economic performance and outlook remained fragile.

“2025 growth remained well below potential as weak public investment and energy supply disruptions weighed on the non-hydrocarbon sector, and medium-term growth prospects have softened for similar reasons,” the Fund said.
