Journalist and Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)’s sub-Saharan Africa representative Muthoki Mumo says there are concerns over the safety of journalists in Guinea Bissau.
The Military seized power on Wednesday, ousting President Umaro Sissoco Embalo who sought a second term.
The coup-prone country voted on Sunday in Presidential and Legislative elections and the results were expected to be announced on Thursday.
Both Embalo and top challenger Fernando Dias had claimed victory.
West Africa’s Economic Community of West African States and African Union observers have meanwhile expressed concern over the military takeover in Guinea-Bissau and the arrests of election officials.
Mumo says there a media shutdown is already underway.
