Dangote refinery assures Nigerians of steady fuel supply amid price surge

The Dangote refinery has moved to allay public concern over rising petrol prices, assuring Nigerians that fuel supply remains steady despite recent disruptions.

This follows widespread rumours that the multi-billion-Dollar refinery had suspended petrol sales last week, claims that sparked panic buying and price hikes across several states.

Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of the Dangote Group, clarified that temporary operational challenges, including maintenance work and brief outages, had slowed crude processing but did not halt production.

He emphasised that the refinery continues to operate and holds substantial fuel reserves. “We currently have over 310 million litres of premium motor spirit in our tanks, in addition to the daily production that continues,” Edwin said.

The assurance comes as fuel prices continue to fluctuate across Nigeria, with marketers citing supply uncertainty and logistics challenges. The Dangote refinery, Africa’s largest, is seen as key to stabilising the nation’s fuel supply and reducing dependence on imports.
