Eastern DRC communities plead for government protection

Residents across several villages in the Kalehe territory, located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) along the volatile border between South and North Kivu, have made an urgent appeal for heightened military security and immediate humanitarian aid as ongoing rebel attacks devastate the region.

The affected populations, primarily consisting of local farmers and pastoralists, say the relentless violence perpetrated by armed groups has completely stripped them of their livelihoods. With fields inaccessible and livestock plundered, families have been plunged into extreme poverty and severe hardship after enduring years of conflict in eastern DRC.

Local community leaders are urging the Congolese government and international aid agencies to step in, not only to secure the area so they can safely return to their land, but also to provide emergency relief to sustain those who have lost everything to the fighting.
