The debate over Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Amendment Bill Number three enters its third week in Parliament, with lawmakers remain sharply divided along party lines.
The heated discussions have also exposed deep divisions within the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change, with its Members of Parliament splitting into two opposing camps.
Those opposing the Bill argue that the proposed changes undermine democratic principles, weaken constitutional safeguards and could concentrate more power in the presidency under President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
They contend that the amendments, particularly those affecting presidential tenure and electoral processes, risk reversing democratic gains made under the 2013 Constitution.
