Community leaders in Doma, a town in northern Nigeria, reached an agreement which lasted only six months before violence resumed

Community leaders in Doma, a town in northern Nigeria, reached an agreement with local armed groups to end attacks and allow farmers to return safely to their fields.

The truce, however, lasted only six months before violence resumed, leaving residents once again exposed to insecurity.

The short-lived agreement had raised hopes for stability in the region, offering a temporary respite for communities grappling with repeated attacks and displacement. Experts say the collapse shows the difficulty of negotiating lasting peace with armed actors in northern Nigeria.

Reporter Zachary Goelman notes that without sustained security measures and support for local communities, such ceasefires are unlikely to hold.
