Dozens killed in drone strike on displacement camp in Sudan’s El-Fasher

Dozens of people have been killed in a drone strike on a displacement shelter in El-Fasher, a city in Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region that has been under siege for months.

Local resistance committees said the attack targeted the Dar al-Arqam camp, which is located within a university compound. According to the group, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched two drone strikes followed by eight artillery shells. The RSF, however, has denied responsibility for the attack.

The Sudan Doctors Network confirmed that at least 57 people were killed, including 17 children, while 17 others were injured. Eyewitnesses described scenes of devastation as rescuers struggled to reach victims trapped under debris.

El-Fasher, one of the few remaining cities still under Sudanese army control in the Darfur region, has faced relentless fighting as the RSF intensifies its assault. The latest strike adds to growing fears that the humanitarian situation could worsen further.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since 2023, when a power struggle between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces erupted into full-scale war, displacing millions and creating one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
