The C64 coalition, comprising political leaders and opposition figures in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), announced that it will take self-defence measures against any obstacles hindering its public activities.
The opposition group declared that it will actively protect its political rights and public gatherings, raising concerns over heightened political friction and civil freedom restrictions in the DRC.
Speaking in an interview with journalist Abedi Jean de la Croix, political analyst Omar Kavota, specialising in the DRC and Great Lakes region from Beni, provided an assessment of the coalition’s statement.
Kavota noted that the announcement reflects growing frustration within the political opposition regarding space for democratic engagement, while warning that such declarations could escalate tensions between state authorities and political organisations across the country.
