As theRepublic of Congo prepares to mark 66 years of independence on Saturday, President Denis Sassou Nguesso has started another five-year term in office.
Sassou Nguesso first took power in 1979 and has led the country for more than 40 years.
The Republic of Congo gained independence from France in 1960.
The independence anniversary comes with growing debate over what happens after his current term ends in 2031.
