President Félix Tshisekedi has established a preparatory committee to lay the groundwork for an upcoming national dialogue in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Operating under the direct authority of the President, the newly formed body is tasked with defining the framework, key parameters, and operational conditions required to open the talks.
The initiative comes as the government in Kinshasa seeks to convene political parties, opposition factions, and civil society organisations around a unified national consultative process.
The push for inclusive national talks occurs against a backdrop of heightened political tension and ongoing security challenges, particularly in the eastern provinces. By establishing an executive committee to guide consultations, the administration aims to build consensus among key stakeholders on governance, electoral reforms, and national stability before formal negotiations begin.
