The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government has issued a nationwide ban on the activities of the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), led by former President Joseph Kabila, alongside 12 other political organisations.
The directive was officially announced by Minister of Interior Jacquemain Shabani, coming just a few days after Kabila unveiled the formation of a new political-military movement named the National Refoundation Front.
The suspension of party activities marks a dramatic escalation in political tensions between the administration of President Félix Tshisekedi and supporters of his predecessor.
DRC security authorities have heightened surveillance across major urban centres, citing national security concerns and allegations that the newly formed movement poses a direct threat to the stability of the central government.
