The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) says it will not alter its World Cup warm-up plans despite a warning from United States (US) authorities requiring the team to undergo a 21-day isolation period before entering the country.
The White House World Cup task force has advised that the Congolese delegation maintain a strict training “bubble” in Belgium, warning that failure to comply could result in the team being denied entry due to concerns linked to a deadly Ebola outbreak in the DRC.
Officials say the team is expected to be based in Houston for the tournament, where they will prepare for their opening Group K fixture against Portugal on June 17.
Despite the restrictions, the DRC football authorities have indicated that they have no plans to change their current training arrangements as preparations for the tournament continue.
