East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) will celebrate its 10th anniversary on February 14, 2026

The East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) will celebrate its 10th anniversary on February 14, 2026 at its headquarters in Zanzibar, marking a decade of promoting the Kiswahili language for regional integration and development.

Since 2015, the EAKC has advanced the use of Kiswahili nationally, regionally and internationally, collaborating with the East African Community (EAC), Southern African Development Community, African Union, and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation. The anniversary, themed “A Decade of Kiswahili: Strengthening Integration, Innovation, and Sustainable Development in the EAC,” will reflect on achievements, showcase impact, and outline the language’s future role.

Events will include keynote speeches, high-level discussions, awards, and cultural performances. The milestone is expected to strengthen political commitment, raise Kiswahili’s profile and set a strategic roadmap for its next 10 years as a tool for unity, economic opportunity, and regional identity.
