Communications regulators from the EAC member states have met in Tanzania to discuss a new regional mobile roaming framework

Communications regulators from the East African Community (EAC) member states have met in Tanzania to discuss a new regional mobile roaming framework aimed at reducing communication costs and improving cross-border connectivity.

The meeting reviewed plans for affordable and seamless roaming services across East Africa, as part of efforts to strengthen regional trade and digital integration. EAC Deputy Secretary General Andrea Aguer Ariik Malueth said reliable cross-border communication was essential for the bloc’s Common Market and emerging Single Digital Market.

Officials from the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority and the Uganda Communications Commission said the reforms would help lower roaming charges, improve consumer protection, and support free movement within the region. The meeting was organised by the EAC Secretariat with support from the World Bank and other regional partners.
