The Vice President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Damtien Tchintchibidja, has paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) headquarters in Praia, as efforts intensify to strengthen regional energy co-operation.
During the visit, Acting Executive Director Gibson Obai outlined the centre’s ongoing programmes and strategic priorities, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the bloc’s Vision 2050 agenda.
Obai highlighted ECREEE’s work in advancing renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and strengthening regional data systems, noting that the centre aims to scale up its impact across member states with continued support from the Commission.
In response, Tchintchibidja praised ECREEE’s achievements and stressed the importance of deeper collaboration, describing the centre as key to West Africa’s transition towards sustainable energy.
Talks also focused on the need for stronger financial support mechanisms to sustain programmes and expand their reach, alongside improving staff capacity and operational effectiveness.
The visit concluded with ECREEE presenting Tchintchibidja with an award recognising her role in promoting regional integration and sustainable development.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to accelerating West Africa’s energy transition and strengthening co-operation in the years ahead.
