Egypt has agreed to join United States (US) President Donald Trump’s newly formed “Board of Peace”, an initiative aimed at addressing global conflicts, according to a joint statement issued by the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

The statement said Egypt was among several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, that have accepted invitations to participate in the initiative. Each country is expected to sign accession documents in line with its own legal procedures.

Trump has invited dozens of world leaders to take part in the Board of Peace, which he says is designed to promote dialogue and conflict resolution. However, some diplomats have expressed concern that the initiative could undermine existing multilateral mechanisms, including the role of the United Nations.
