Eight of 29 undocumented Zimbabwean nationals have appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in South Africa (SA), accompanied by infants and children as young as two months old.

It is alleged that deportation procedures for the group could take place later this week in an effort to avoid separating children from their parents.

Authorities are also said to be facing challenges in accommodating the minors, with reports indicating that places of safety are overcrowded and unable to take in additional children.

The matter has been postponed to tomorrow for further proceedings.
