Political parties in the North West province have signed the Code of Conduct pledge in Mahikeng ahead of the Local Government Elections on November 4.
The Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa (SA), Chairperson Mosotho Moepya says the Electoral Code of Conduct is a public covenant to safeguard electoral integrity and any breach undermines public confidence and ultimately taints the outcome of elections.
Political parties in the North West province have signed the Code of Conduct pledge in Mahikeng ahead of the Local Government Elections on November 4.
Moepya has urged all political parties to adhere to the code.
He says, “The high level of political contestation imposes an immense ethical and operational burden on every leader in this room because the margin of victory across the North West province is increasingly narrowing or narrowing the temptation to engage in irregular campaign tactics, political gatekeeping or zero-sum territorialism will be hard. However, breaching the electoral code of conduct in this province will directly undermine public confidence .”
