Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus praised his team for delivering what he described as a “clinical performance” as South Africa (SA) overpowered Wales 73-0 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.

The result secured a clean sweep on the Castle Lager Outgoing Tour for the second consecutive year and marked the Boks’ 13th win in 15 matches this season, giving them an 86.7% win record.

It was also the highest points tally the Springboks have scored against Wales under Erasmus.

“I’m very proud of the way we played,” Erasmus said, emphasising that the team had not underestimated Wales despite their world ranking. He singled out players such as Asenathi Ntlabakanye and Zac Porthen for their hunger and impact, adding that the team fought “until the end”.

Reflecting on the Boks’ steady progression, Erasmus said the squad had produced “one of the more clinical performances”, noting that the players “don’t just roll over” and had put their “soul into the game”.

Captain Siya Kolisi credited the team’s leadership structures for enabling him to focus on the squad’s energy and unity.

“I have so many guys around me who have captained the team,” Kolisi said. “We draw energy from one another, and there’s so much good happening in our country and sport. Our purpose is always for our people back home.”

With SA ending the season as the world’s top-ranked team ahead of next week’s Rugby World Cup draw, Erasmus acknowledged that finishing at No. 1 had held particular value this year. However, he said the focus would remain on building depth through the Nations Championship and Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry in 2025.

Erasmus also addressed Eben Etzebeth’s late red card, calling it “justified”, though he said he was unsure whether the incident had been provoked. “That’s not the way we want to play,” he added.

The Bok coach encouraged Wales to remain patient as they rebuild, noting the significant number of experienced players they have recently lost. “Eventually, somewhere it will come right,” he said.
