eSwatini has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety and Standards Centre of Excellence, in a move aimed at strengthening Africa’s ability to assess, test and govern AI.
The initiative, led by the eSwatini Standards Authority in partnership with the AI Centre of Excellence Africa, will focus on developing local expertise and standards, with plans to establish an AI safety research and testing laboratory.
It comes amid growing concerns about the risks of AI, including bias, data protection and the reliability of systems increasingly used in everyday life.
