The quarterly crime statistics from July to September were released in Cape Town indicating an increase in murders of just over 9%.

Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile says about 80% of the crimes are committed in the city of Cape Town. Patekile says violent crimes are concentrated within the City of Cape Town District, hence the province has nine police stations on the list of top 30 police stations of high crime stations.

“Of the nine high Western Cape contact stations, eight are in the City of Cape Town and even within the list of top 30 murder stations, the province has now 13 stations in the City at the heart of these crimes is the use of illegal firearms and ammunition,” he said.
