The former Chairperson of the South African Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA), Themba Godi, has described the Road Accident Fund (RAF) as a cursed entity

This comes as a SCOPA investigation continues to expose widespread maladministration and financial malfeasance within the RAF. Last month, the RAF board placed four senior executives on precautionary suspension amid an independent investigation into certain administrative and governance matters within the organisation. The suspended officials include the acting Chief Executive Officer |CEO), Chief Operations Officer, chief governance officer and the head of the CEO’s office. Godi has described the recent events as unfortunate

“If we were villagers of the olden days, we’d say it is a bewitched entity because it has never known peace. The accusations that go back and forth between board members and management is something that has always been there. I think during my time I even had situations where I’d receive letters from members of the board accusing each other of this and that in a manner that leaves you perplexed without knowing where to start and how to manage it,” he said.
