Former Zambian Cabinet Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya has been shot and killed during a joint security operation in Lusaka, police confirmed late on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba, the incident occurred during a raid by law enforcement and military forces on a residence linked to opposition leader Brian Mundubile following an exchange of fire.
The police statement noted that an unidentified individual was critically wounded during the operation and transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Following public speculation regarding Kafwaya’s whereabouts, authorities requested family members to assist with identification, with relatives subsequently confirming the deceased as the former Minister.
The operation comes amid heightened political tension following the recent presidential election, with authorities maintaining that the security forces acted in response to gunfire originating from the property.
