President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has called for stronger African representation on the United Nations (UN) Security Council during the final leg of his African tour in Ethiopia.
Macron, who also visited Egypt and Kenya during the trip, said international institutions need to better reflect modern global realities and correct what he described as a historical injustice against Africa.
Speaking in Ethiopia, Macron said permanent African representation on the Security Council should become a priority in efforts to improve the body’s legitimacy and effectiveness.
António Guterres supported the call, saying the world would benefit from a more inclusive and representative Security Council.
African leaders have long argued that the continent remains underrepresented in global decision-making structures despite its population size and growing political and economic influence.
