SA motorists will see relief at the pumps from Wednesday, following the announcement of January fuel price adjustments

South African (SA) motorists will see relief at the pumps from Wednesday, following the announcement of January fuel price adjustments by the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.

The reductions come amid falling international oil prices and a stronger Rand.

Both petrol grades are set to decline, with 93-octane falling by 62 cents per litre ($0.03) and 95-octane by 66 cents per litre ($0.03). Diesel will see larger decreases of R1.37 ($0.07) and R1.50 ($0.08) per litre, while the wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will drop by R1.10 ($0.06) per litre.

Department Spokesperson Robert Maake said the changes are mainly due to an oversupply of Brent crude oil and the rand’s appreciation against the United States Dollar, which lowered costs by over 20 cents per litre ($0.01). The slate levy remains unchanged at zero cents per litre for both petrol and diesel.

The adjustments offer much-needed relief for consumers as fuel costs ease at the start of the year.
