This comes as authorities prepare for operational readiness ahead of the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in November.
South African (SA) Gauteng province motorists are warned to brace themselves for major traffic disruptions this Friday and Saturday in the cities of Tshwane, Johannesburg, and Ekurhuleni.
This comes as authorities prepare for operational readiness ahead of the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in November.
High-security routes -including the N1, N3, N12, M1, R21, R24, and R512 will be affected.
The operation will result in temporary road closures, lane restrictions, and rolling traffic stops.
The joint operation involves the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the South African Police Service, and various metro police departments.

The planned G20 dry run will take place on Friday and Saturday across the three metros.

Affected routes include those linking OR Tambo and Lanseria airports, the Waterkloof Air Force Base, Sandton, and Nasrec, the summit venue.
The RTMC says these measures are essential to enhance public safety, enforce traffic compliance, and support ongoing traffic law enforcement initiatives.
Motorists are urged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternative routes.
Access for emergency and essential services will be prioritised.
