G20 leaders have received a report assessing the group’s progress, examining both its successes and the hurdles it faces in fostering stronger global trade partnerships.

South Africa’s G20 Sherpa Ambassador, Xolisa Mabhongo, said the review also reflects debates over the breadth of the G20 agenda. “Some members believe the forum has expanded too widely, and that the agenda has become too broad. There is a view that we need to focus more. Back in 2012, when Mexico hosted the G20 under the sherpa track, we had only about six working groups. The forum has grown considerably since then,” he said.

The report offers guidance for member states on how to sharpen the G20’s focus while continuing to address pressing global economic, social, and environmental issues.
