French Ambassador to SA, David Martinon, stressed the importance of sustainability in the industry and its role in decarbonisation. He highlighted Africa’s potential as a premier global tourism destination, noting that improved air connectivity is essential to unlocking the continent’s travel opportunities.
“We want to ensure that the tourism sector places a strong emphasis on sustainability because the industry itself must play its part in the decarbonisation process if we want it to be durable,” Martinon said. “Tourism can be at the heart of economic development, particularly in Africa, which has so much to offer the world in terms of destinations. At the same time, we need greater air connectivity to make these opportunities accessible to travellers.”
The summit provides a platform for Ministers and industry leaders to explore strategies that balance environmental responsibility with economic growth in the global tourism sector.
