Gabon is moving forward with its digital transformation agenda, introducing on-board Wi-Fi on passenger trains

Gabon is moving forward with its digital transformation agenda, introducing on-board Wi-Fi on passenger trains as part of wider efforts to modernise public services and boost economic activity.

The initiative, spearheaded by the post-transition government, aims to make rail travel more attractive while supporting businesses and improving connectivity for commuters. Analysts say it reflects Gabon’s commitment to embracing technology as a means of enhancing public infrastructure and service delivery.

Geopolitical analyst Aaron Nga’mbi commented, “This is a strategic move by Gabon. Providing Wi-Fi on trains not only modernises transport services but also stimulates business opportunities and encourages greater use of the rail network, which is critical for economic development.”

The government hopes that the initiative will increase passenger numbers, strengthen digital literacy, and position Gabon as a regional leader in leveraging technology to improve public services. Future plans include expanding access to other online services on trains, ensuring that the rail system becomes a more integrated and efficient part of the country’s transport and economic framework.
