Gabon names new 32 member government as economic pressures mount

Gabon authorities have rolled out a fresh 32-member cabinet following a government shake-up driven by tight public finances and mounting pressure to diversify the country’s economy.

The cabinet changes follow a major budget reduction that cuts national spending by 862.9 billion CFA Francs ($1.47 billion) and reduces funding for public investment. While key Ministers overseeing finance, oil, gas, and mining kept their positions, the reshuffle brings in eight new officials and restructures several departments, combining trade and industry into a single ministry, while separating environmental policy from forestry.

The newly formed team steps up as Libreville stays locked in talks with the International Monetary Fund to stabilise public coffers, boost non-oil revenues, and close glaring gaps in rural water and electricity access.
