Long queues and growing frustration have gripped Gabon’s capital, Libreville, as motorists spend hours queuing for petrol and diesel due to acute fuel shortages across the city.
Gabonese authorities have described the crisis as a temporary disruption caused by declining stock at the national refinery, Sogara, coupled with maritime transport bottlenecks that have delayed the movement of refined fuel.
Speaking to Rise ad Shine, geopolitical analyst Aaron Ng’mbi noted the irony of an oil-producing nation facing such deficits, pointing out that while the transitional government has taken responsibility for the bottleneck, the crisis highlights a lack of strategic planning.
Ng’mbi warned that despite the transitional leadership’s efforts to project administrative stability and distance itself from the former Bongo dynasty, prolonged fuel rationing risks severely disrupting daily commerce and public transport across the capital.
