Ambassador of Gabon to South Africa, Rodriguez Rembendambya, says his country is actively working with neighbouring states to remove barriers that limit the free movement

Ambassador of Gabon to South Africa, Rodriguez Rembendambya, says his country is actively working with neighbouring states to remove barriers that limit the free movement of people across the Central Africa region.

Rembendambya said strengthening regional integration has become a key priority for Gabon as part of broader political and economic reforms under the country’s new political dispensation.

“Regional integration is very important to Gabon and we are working hard with our neighbours in Central Africa to make sure the issues of integration are addressed,” he said.

He explained that several reforms are currently being implemented within regional frameworks to reduce restrictions that make travel and economic cooperation difficult.

“Many reforms in the Central African framework are being implemented to ensure there are fewer constraints and to facilitate the movement of people in the region. At the moment we are doing well in terms of regional integration, we are there, we are participating and we are pushing,” Rembendambya added.

He also highlighted economic transformation as another key focus area, noting that Gabon is promoting the local processing of its natural resources to increase value addition and strengthen the national economy.
