Gabonese President’s party secures parliamentary majority in 2025 elections

Gabon’s ruling party, the Union Démocratique des Bâtisseurs (UDB), led by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has won 102 of the 145 seats in Parliament following the two rounds of the 2025 legislative elections.

The outcome gives the President a solid majority, with the UDB now representing around 70 % of all deputies.

The elections signal a significant reshaping of Gabon’s political landscape. The Parti Démocratique Gabonais (PDG), once the backbone of the country’s political system, has been relegated to a secondary role, securing only 16 seats in the new Parliament.

Speaking on the results, political analyst Gaël Koumba Ayouné said, “This election marks a turning point in Gabonese politics. The UDB’s decisive victory not only strengthens the president’s mandate but also signals a shift in the balance of power. The PDG, once dominant, now faces the challenge of redefining its role in the national dialogue.”
