Gambia National Olympic Committee hosts the country’s main International Olympic Day festivities

A major weekend of sport kicks off tomorrow, June 20, as the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) hosts the country’s main International Olympic Day festivities in Farafenni, North Bank Region.

The annual event aims to connect local youth, athletes, and communities through physical activity while championing core values of sportsmanship and mutual respect. This year’s event runs under the global banner, “You Can Do This! Let’s Move”, a campaign designed to tackle sedentary lifestyles by urging people of all ages to integrate daily exercise into their routines.

The focus on national sports comes at a crucial time for the country’s volleyball setup. Gambia Volleyball Federation President Bai Dodou Jallow has made a direct appeal to sports fans across the nation to throw their full weight behind the senior men’s indoor national volleyball squad.

The national team is currently vying for a spot on the continental stage as they host regional competitors in the Zone II qualifying tournament for the CAVB Men’s African Volleyball Championship. Jallow highlighted that robust home crowds and passionate public support will give the players the vital psychological edge needed to secure qualification.
