The campaign will run until September 12, 2025.

Since January, Gauteng province has recorded over 370 confirmed measles cases. The Gauteng department aims to vaccinate more than four million children between the ages of six months and 15 years across all five health districts.

The official launch will take place at Steve Biko Primary School in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, SA.

Department Spokesperson Motalatale Modiba is urging communities to support the initiative:

“We are calling on parents, guardians and caregivers to sign and return consent forms distributed through the schools and crèches to allow children to be immunised. Vaccination or immunisation is safe, free, and it’s proven to prevent severe complications and disabilities associated with measles and rubella.”
