Germany has confirmed its continued support for South Africa’s shift towards clean energy

Germany has confirmed its continued support for South Africa’s (SA) shift towards clean energy, despite global political uncertainties.

Rainer Baake, Germany’s Special Envoy for the Just Energy Transition Partnership, spoke to the media in Pretoria, noting that Europe’s largest economy has allocated nearly $3.75 billion to assist SA in expanding its renewable energy sector.

“Germany remains fully committed to working with SA on the transition to cleaner energy, regardless of international political changes,” Baake said.

The partnership, which began in 2021, focuses on helping SA move towards a low-carbon energy system while supporting economic growth and sustainable development. Baake highlighted that international collaboration is key to achieving a cleaner energy future for the country.
