The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, together with Millennium Marathon Sports Limited, the National Sports Authority and the KGL Group, has unveiled the Ghana Independence Day Walk/Run, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting wellness, unity and national pride.
Organisers announced at the launch that the event will form part of activities marking Ghana’s 70th Independence anniversary. The programme will see simultaneous 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre walks and runs taking place across the country, with a target of mobilising more than one million participants in a show of collective national spirit.
Scheduled for March 7, 2026, the campaign is also intended to support President John Dramani Mahama’s drive to use sports and recreation as a tool for community engagement, social cohesion and improved public health.
